Use Sales > Returns & Refunds when a customer brings goods back.
Steps
- Choose New return and find the original sale.
- Select the items and quantities being returned. You cannot return more than was sold.
- For each item say whether it can be resold or is damaged.
- Submit.
What happens
- Resellable items go back into your stock.
- Damaged items do not go back into stock - they are recorded as a loss.
- The original sale is never edited. The return is its own record.
- If the customer owed money on the sale, the refund can reduce what they owe.
Approval
Returns affect stock, sales and customer balances, so they are approved by the business owner only. Until then nothing changes. Everyone involved can see the outcome, and a customer with an email on file may be told the result.
